Dr. Zachary Cappello, ENT Doctor on WSOC Daily Two segment

CEENTA ENT specialist Zachary Cappello, MD appeared on WSOC's Daily Two on October 7, 2021 to discuss common sinus problems and nasal polyps.

Transcript of the Interview:

Laura Palka: The Daily Two is brought to you by Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates.

Well, if you have sinus issues, you're definitely not alone. You may be suffering from something called chronic sinusitis. Joining us today is Dr. Zachary Cappello. Doctor, talk about how our sinuses are important to our overall health.

Dr. Zachary Cappello: Your sinuses are incredibly important to your overall health. In fact, a large portion of doctor's visits on a yearly basis and healthcare dollar expenditures on a yearly basis are secondary to chronic sinus infections and even acute sinus infections.

Palka: I know you want to talk about something called nasal polyps, what are they?

Dr. Cappello: So nasal polyps are soft, painless non-cancerous gross that are on the lining of the nasal passages and the sinuses, and they're typically secondary to chronic inflammation and chronic infection in patients

Palka: So, it's different from allergies, is this something that can be treated?

Dr. Cappello: It is something that can be treated, and it's typically treated in a multi-modality fashion, meaning that we will treat patients with medical therapies as well as offering surgical therapies for patients.

Palka: So, what are the symptoms someone should look for, when is it time that they need to make an appointment at your SouthPark office to get checked out?

Dr. Cappello: So if you've been experiencing any of the following symptoms for more than 12 weeks, such as runny nose, persistent stuffiness, postnasal drip, certainly loss of taste or smell, facial pain and pressure, then I recommend you come in and see me and we can evaluate your sinus passages and then we can talk about the best plan of treatment for you.

Palka: And you can probably tell pretty quickly if it's allergies or if it's polyps or something else.

Dr. Cappello: Yes exactly. I can get a quick look in your nose and we can determine the best plan of treatment from there.

Palka: Doctor, thanks for all of the great information. If you'd like to learn more or make an appointment, call the number on your screen or go to WeJustMakeSense.com. For The Daily 2, I'm Laura Palka.
