Jeanne Hitsman, a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant in Charlotte.

Do you enjoy caring for eyes? Do you want to work in a practice that will give you new opportunities every day and provide plenty of learning prospects? A career as a CEENTA Ophthalmic Assistant could be right for you. But don’t take our word for it. Just ask Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Jeanne Hitsman.

Jeanne has been a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant for 23 years. As an ophthalmic assistant, Jeanne’s duties can vary from day to day. Sometimes she inputs patient history, sometimes she refracts patients or measures their intraocular pressure, and sometimes she assists with minor procedures like performing biopsies or chalazion excision.

“I love plastics,” she said. “You never know what the day’s going to bring. There’s something different all the time. We work with a variety of patients. It can range from seeing a patient that may have cancer to seeing a patient that is interested in having cosmetic surgery.”

While this wasn’t the first practice Jeanne worked at when she arrived to Charlotte, it’s where she wanted to end up because of all the opportunities CEENTA provides.

“There’s room to grow, whether it’s with the choice of locations or doctors to work for,” Jeanne said. “CEENTA offers all types of ophthalmic care so you have the opportunity to try different ophthalmic specialties. That is really priceless because there aren’t a lot of places that offer that.”

With optical care in offices around North Carolina, CEENTA is a very appealing place to work no matter where you live. And not only are there many options for home offices, but CEENTA also gives ophthalmic assistants the opportunity to work in other offices with other doctors if their primary doctor is in surgery or otherwise unavailable and the assistants’ schedules allow.

CEENTA also provides in-house continuing education opportunities for Certified Ophthalmic Assistants, which helps Jeanne and other Certified Ophthalmic Assistants keep up with their certification.

“CEENTA’s training program is so great, it’s almost unheard of,” Jeanne said.

And while she isn’t a native of Charlotte herself, Jeanne loves the city she’s called home for 30 years.

“I love the location and the diversity,” she said. “The beach and the mountains are nearby, and the weather is fantastic. There are plenty of great job opportunities for your spouse if you move to Charlotte or the surrounding area.”
