CEENTA welcomes Dr. Alexander Barnes and Dr. Joshua Kain

CEENTA is pleased to announce the addition of two physicians to our practice effective June 18, 2024: Alexander Barnes, MD, and Joshua Kain, MD, FACS.

Dr. Barnes is a fellowship-trained retina specialist with particular focus on the treatment of medical and surgical retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachments, secondary intraocular lens placements, macular holes and epiretinal membranes. Graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in economics, Dr. Barnes received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. After completing his internship at MetroHealth Medical Center and his residency at the Cole Eye Institute in Cleveland, OH, Dr. Barnes later finished his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Emory Eye Center at Emory University.

As a fellowship-trained head and neck cancer surgeon, Dr. Kain’s clinical interests include cancers of the mouth, throat, face, neck and skin. In addition, Dr. Kain performs facial reconstructive surgery to complement cancer treatments including microvascular surgery. After receiving his undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences from Texas A&M University, Dr. Kain earned his medical degree from the University of Texas at Houston Medical School. He later completed his residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital and his fellowship in head & heck surgical oncology, robotic surgery, skull base surgery, and reconstructive surgery at the University of California at Davis Health. In addition, he has experience as an instructor at multiple institutions including the Houston Methodist Research Institute and Weill Cornell Medicine.

“CEENTA is a unique organization within the field of private practice ophthalmology,” Dr. Barnes said. “Joining a large retina group within a multi-specialty practice offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate not only with other retina providers but also other sub-specialists under the same roof. I am excited to work with these providers and their staff, all of whom are at the top of their respective fields.”

When asked about his decision to join CEENTA, Dr. Kain stated, “I knew this organization to be not only well established, but even better regarded as a high-quality and compassionate group of doctors and providers. I hope to bring unique specialization to this already strong organization to provide people not only head and neck cancer care, but the breadth of reconstructive surgical procedures necessary to live a fuller life long after treatment.”

“Drs. Barnes and Kain are both very accomplished physicians in their respective fields, and we are proud that they have chosen CEENTA to treat patients in our multiple offices in the Carolinas,” CEENTA CEO Jag Gill, ScD, said.

Dr. Barnes will see patients at our Concord, Salisbury, and University offices and Dr. Kain will provide his services at our SouthPark and Rock Hill locations. To make an appointment with these physicians, patients can call 704-295-3000.
